Forget the TSA

I am thankful for the beauty that exists in our world. For this week’s obsession, I offer you a glimpse of Italian sculptor Antonio Canova’s exquisite Cupid Awakening Psyche (1793) at the Louvre. Absolutely my favorite – it is love carved in stone.

According to myth, Cupid awakens Psyche from eternal slumber with a kiss.

Antonio Canova was truly a magnificent Venetian sculptor! I am a great fan of his. I also saw some of his works in Rome at the Galleria Borghese and Milan at the Villa Carlotta but the one in the Louvre is the most beautiful, I agree. Thanks for sharing!

Now I know who the true art lovers are :-)

@Victoria – If you recall the Michelangelo sculpture Captive (The Dying Slave), Psyche and Cupid are at the other end of the room. Next time!

@Lindsey @Angie – Yes, takes your breath away! I sat and contemplated it for half an hour and snapped photos from every angle.
