Fish Fridays

We’re nearing the end of the Christian Lenten season which begins on Ash Wednesday (preceded by the celebrations of Shrove (or Fat) Tuesday) and continues for 40 days until Easter Sunday. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The tradition of eating fish on Fridays is commonplace as is the convivial parish fish fry during Lent.

I’d like to share with you this lovely Spring recipe from Bon Appétit that includes a delicate piece of halibut wrapped in bright cabbage leaves, perfect any time of year, but I thought it especially appropriate for Fish Friday!

Wishing you sunny days this weekend! And, last but not least,  I was reminded of the genuine and generous spirit of the über-talented Victoria of Mission: Food when she celebrated her birthday last weekend and wanted to thank her for the two wonderful awards she bestowed upon me months ago. Mah bad for it taking me so long, I repent!

What a perfect recipe. The cabbage keeps the fish moist and the caper sauce is absolutely yummy. Great photo Priscilla! Enjoy your weekend!! :-)

I love this recipe, the cabbage is so pretty and bright green even after being cooked. It looks so good with the barley risotto. You’ve put together a wonderful healthy meal, I think my husband would love this recipe too;-)

Priscilla, this is lovely! I’m really liking the cabbage wrap idea. I’m always on the lookout for new fish dishes since I seem to get stuck on the few dishes I know. This one is a keeper.

    Have a great weekend!

What a great idea. I like the idea of wrapping food such as in banana leaves or corn husks. However, sometimes those leaves leave a peculiar taste in the food. Cabbage is a great idea because it actually tastes good. How clever.

I am used to eating cabbage rolls, but I’ve never had it with halibut… this I MUST try! And your presentation is so yummy … made me drool a bit.

I will certainly have to try making this with my favourite Savoy variety cabbage.
Before seeing this in your post, I quite honestly had not thought of wrapping fish in cabbage leaves. Hmmm….where have I been?
    Thanks Priscilla ;o)

    Flavourful wishes,
