Beach Eats: Eat Chow 2

Eat Chow - Fried Green Tomato | ShesCookin.com

Another beautiful day at the beach! After a few hours of sun, sand, and surf you can really work up an appetite – fortunately, Newport Beach and Huntington Beach have an abundance of great places offering mouthwatering, creative eats that are conveniently located within walking or biking distance from the beach. No need to battle traffic or lose that parking spot, depending on where you’re staked out, mouthwatering eats are only a leisurely pedal or stroll away.

One such place is Eat Chow 2 in the Newport Shores neighborhood, bringing you the same excellent fare that Orange County foodies have been raving about since the  2008 opening of Eat Chow in Costa Mesa.

Eat Chow’s main goal is simple – to make its customers full and happy. And over the last four years, the owners and staff have been doing just that at their 18th Street, Costa Mesa location. But when the perfect little spot opened in Newport Shores – the team jumped at the chance to continue their mission and expand to the beach. Eat Chow 2 (EC2) fits in perfectly with the laid-back atmosphere of its bayside neighborhood, creating just the friendly vibe Eat Chow prefers.

While the new location will serve up the same favorites as the Costa Mesa spot – think everything from truffle mac n’ cheese, warm curry chicken salad, and the French dip with made-from-love au jus, to Mexican chilaquiles, and the Reuben with homemade red cabbage sauerkraut – 100s of new recipes are in the works. The Eat Chow team – Amy Curran, Francisco Perez and Brian McReynolds – are excited at the opportunity to test these out in the Newport location’s state-of-the-art kitchen. To perfectly complement the adventurous recipes (everything from ribeye burritos  to almond-encrusted mascarpone French toast, along with  Southern, Japanese, Mexican, British and Cuban inspired dishes), the restaurant strives to use the best ingredients, and thus receives their ingredients daily to ensure freshness. Eat Chow’s menu is a no-holds-barred, borderless array of international cuisine, each with the chef’s fresh spin.

Although, both locations share the same great objectives, the vibe and aesthetic experience at EC2 is uniquely it own – designed by Ross Morgan, the decor is inspired by a Danish, mid-century modern look, with warm, custom wood components, and beach-inspired color accents and earthy stone walls.

I’ve happily dined at Eat Chow and am excited to have them a few miles down the coast from where I live in downtown Huntington. Talking with Eat Chow owners Amy Curran and Brian McReynolds at the recent Grand Opening, we were excited for them as they expressed their desire for continued success and appreciation of the communities that have embraced them whole-heartedly.

Great review! Those parmesan truffle fries look amazing! We actually have a restaurant up here in Lafayette called Chow – wonder if they are related? Hope the move is going well.

All the dishes from this restaurant look good! I like that male server also – looks like he should be working for the Ringling Brothers’ Circus! The curry salmon tacos, fries with truffle parmesan, and fried tomatoes just captured my heart (and stomach)!
