Last year, I was a judge in the savory category and had a blast with my fellow team members: the amazing Cathy Thomas, cook book author and food columnist at Orange County Register, and Eva Kilgore, also a writer for the Register. I can say, “We called it!” when the award for Best Savory Dish went to Chef Roy Hendrickson of Zimzala at the Shorebreak Hotel for his Pork Flatiron Po-Boy.

In addition, celebrity guest Neil Saavedra, the host of the Fork Report – “Everything food, every single Saturday from 2-4PM on KFI AM 640!” – awarded his own “Fork Report Big Fork” to Shades Restaurant at the Hilton Waterfront Hotel and another “Fork Report’s Choice” to Slapfish Seafood.

Naturally, you’ll want to pair your favorite savory and sweet bites with sips from a stellar lineup of wine and beer samples from 35 of California’s premier wineries and breweries. Last year local brewer Four Sons won 1st Place for their Coco Amber Ale (I called it!); 2nd Place: Sierra Nevada Kellerweis and 3rd Place: Firestone Walker 805 Blonde Ale. Awards are also decided for Best White and Best Red Wines, Best Decorated Booth, and Most Enthusiastic.
Don’t miss out! Participating restaurants and vendors are being updated daily. Slater’s 50/50, Duke’s, Sandy’s, Deli-licious, Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar, Shades Restaurant, and Red Table are a few of the confirmed returning restaurants. First time participants include Bondi Grill House, Mahe Restaurant, and Pizza Lounge.
