About
It’s almost Mother’s Day which made me think back to a year ago when I started this blog as a tribute to moms everywhere and, in particular, my mom who is 82 years old and has grown a bit frail and needs assistance from her children and friends.
The name Top Mom stems from my love of the TV show Top Chef. It began as a place for readers to nominate moms that they admire – whether it’s their mom, daughter, sister, or friend. The nomination form is on our Mom Gallery page, but the site has evolved to the point where each month we feature a mom as a “Guest Cooker” and add their photo to the Mom Gallery on the website and on our FaceBook Fan Page.
My blogging began as a way to maintain and improve my creative writing skills and as an answer to approaching empty-nest. It certainly worked and has taken on a life of its own! If you’re a blogger you know that a blog is continually changing and mine morphed into a cooking blog when I became a contributor at OC Family magazine. This is when She’s Cookin’ was born.
I’m not a professional chef -but someone who enjoys cooking and values the health and economic benefits of cooking at home and taking the time to connect with family and friends by sharing food and conversation in an increasingly hectic world. I strive to give you healthy, delicious, and creative recipes that are quick and easy enough for busy moms and working professionals to make. Right now, I’m using both blog names which is a little confusing I guess, but a lot of my readers came to me because they like the idea of honoring moms – so I’m not ready to let go of that. And if you like the idea, you can nominate a mom here. Thanks for reading!
