The Young Baker and her BFF decided to make these adorable Owl cupcakes, from the book Hello Cupcake, last week. For an afternoon they measured, stirred, carefully separated dozens of oreos cookies, frosted and painstakenly assembled nearly 50 double chocolate owl cupcakes – all the while joking, cajoling, swearing, and reminiscing. Not only did it serve as a bonding experience for them as they contemplate their futures and wait with anticipation to move to their respective colleges and step boldly into the next phase of their lives, but it further solidified their friendship, grounded in tears and triumphs of their shared experiences since middle school.
The Young Baker and her BFF used cake and frosting recipes from Hello Cupcake which also contains instructions for several cupcakes seen at Cupcake Camp OC. In the waning days of summer, this could be a fun thing to do with your kids – you might be amazed at their patience and attention to detail!
Edit: The recipe is now available on Duncan Hines website. The girls took creative license for their sanity and eliminated the owls ears – they’re still so darn cute!

I have to say, I laughed out loud when that picture came up on my screen. I would never eat them (no offense I am a 40 yo) but I LOVE the creativity. GREG
Monet – they would be perfect for fall! Glad they made you smile!
Greg – Hey, they’re teenagers – the more sugar the better! The entire batch was doled out to friends that day. I have to admit to eating most of one 😀

These are fantastic, and so much fun! I have been in a cupcake kick as of late, and I also happen to have a friend who LOVES owls. I should save this recipe so I can make her some owl cupcakes for her birthday in a couple of months!
These cupcakes are too darn cute!!! Perfect for a kid’s birthday or a themed party. Or even a baby shower (boy baby). I salute you for having a ton of patience decorating these cupcakes.
