Famous for their Family Brunch on Saturdays and the Champagne Brunch on Sundays, Back Bay Bistro at Newport Dunes is featuring new additions to their menu to brighten your day and put a little Spring in your step!

New Spring Menu Items at Back Bay Bistro

At a recent media tasting, Executive Chef Bruno Massuger and team invited us to try dishes from Back Bay Bistro’s menu of tried and true favorites as well as their new Spring menu items. Our table of four had all dined at Back Bay Bistro on other occasions and opted to focus on Chef Bruno’s Spring appetizers and lunch fare.

Back Bay Bistro Onion Soup, Sage Ravioli, Ahi Tuna Sashimi

For our appetizers we selected Sage Ravioli Marzano ($12) – pillows of tender ravioli bathed in an aromatic Marzano Marinara sauce with grilled Italian Sausage and fried sage leaf. Yellow Fin Ahi Sashimi ($12) , generous slices of fresh ahi accompanied by seaweed salad, wasabi and pickled ginger. And, we couldn’t resist an oldie-but-goodie: French Onion Soup ($10) capped with a crust of melted Swiss cheese.

The wraparound patio boasts an expansive view of Newport Beach’s Back Bay and any occasion to dine overlooking the bay is an afternoon well spent! We enjoyed catching up and watching the boats come and go from the marina while taking in the gorgeous view and basking in Southern California’s infamous sunshine.

Parisian Chicken Sandwich with Bacon, Brie, and Arugula

The Parisian Chicken Sandwich ($14), spied at a nearby table, had us at Brie! A chicken breast sandwich dressed p with heirloom tomato, arugula, bacon with slices of brie cheese peeking out from under a brioche bun. Note: Back Bay Bistro is now proud to be featuring custom breads from Orange County’s esteemed bread baker, Dean Kim of OC Baking Company.

Calamari Salad ($16) – a mound of mesclun greens topped with tomatoes, olives, bell peppers topped with an ample portion of grilled, sliced calamari steak. The Bistro Steak Salad With Fried Onions ($18) is a bountiful salad of perfectly grilled steak chunks, romaine lettuce, and feta cheese with a dijon mustard vinaigrette. Not pictured is the Santa Fe Turkey Sandwich with Ortega Chiles ($14).

Back Bay Bistro desserts

We were going to pass on dessert, but Chef would have nothing to do with it. Being four in number, we chose a divide and conquer strategy and chose four sweet treats from the dessert menu. Hands down the table favorite was the Bread Pudding, and it is made in house. One bite took me back to New Orleans and reminiscing about Commander’s Palace scrumptious bread pudding – and I’m not even a bread pudding fan!
