Award-winning SeaLegs Wine Bar is celebrating the heartier flavors of winter with its new seasonal California shared plates, greens, entrees and desserts. The menu boasts a wealth of fresh, local and sustainable items selected to satisfy Huntington Beach locals and Southern Californians alike looking to unwind after work, gather with friends and family, or special occasion dining.

Short Rib Pot Pie, SeaLegs | ShesCookin.com

Short Rib Pot Pie – oh my!!

Braised Angus Beef Short Ribs in a rich beef gravy, mushrooms, peas, carrots a layer of mashed potatoes nestled under flaky house made puff pastry crust (18). Is there anything more satisfying on a wintry night?    I think not!

Award-winning culinary entrepreneur Alicia Whitney and Executive Chef Ken McCaskill collaborated to infuse SeaLegs’ offerings with the sweet-and-savory flavors of the season along with a Southern California twist reflecting the casual warmth of the beachside city. The updated Dinner Menu features comforting winter fare designed to reflect the easy-going beachside simplicity diners have come to expect at SeaLegs.

Cast Iron Tiger Shrimp – perfectly cooked, plump Tiger Shrimp served sizzling in Meyer lemon garlic butter (18.)

“Although our guests are craving richer taste sensations now, they also want the creativity of sampling our diversity of eats, drinks and desserts,” Whitney said. “Our team has worked hard on this menu, and we consider it among our most accessible, tantalizing and inspired.”

Grilled Mahi Mahi and Blue Crab Fried Rice, SeaLegs | ShesCookin.com

New to the menu, seafood fans can savor the Pier 39 Seafood Cioppino with tiger shrimp, manila clams, bay scallops and New Zealand green-lipped mussels, or Grilled Mahi Mahi with blue crab fried rice. Diners in the mood for heartier fare can enjoy Steak Frites with savory Napa Cabernet and mushroom pepper sauce, Short Rib Pot Pie, or Balsamic Hangar Steak. Most main entrées range between $18 and $38.

Since opening in 2012, SeaLegs’ “snacks” and “shares” offerings have served as its signature dishes. One not to be missed is their irresistible Stinky Fries – three cheese garlic fondue topped with shaved parmesan and truffle oil – a perfect complement to the beer, wine, or cocktail of your choice. Smaller than an entrée yet amply filling, these offerings also sport a seasonal update. Prices for most snacks and shares range from $8 to $16.

SeaLegs Napa Cabernet Burger | ShesCookin.com

The Napa Cabernet Burger topped with goat cheese, caramelized Cabernet Sauvignon onions roasted tomato steaks, crispy bacon, and roasted garlic vinaigrette continues to be a popular choice, along with the Lobster & Millionaire’s Mac and Cheese. This quintessential comfort food is made with a creamy, rich three-cheese béchamel and Spirelli noodles. A mac n’ cheese lover’s foodgasm!

Beet persimmon burrata salad | ShesCookin.com

Salad lovers, vegetarians, and the strong-willed health and fitness proponents we admire so much are not forgotten. In fact, the beautifully plated Fall/Winter Salad of winter beets, sliced persimmons, burrata cheese, and a winning bourbon-pistachio vinaigrette was a taste sensation of natural goodness that I will return for — I just hope they are able to continue sourcing persimmons! The under appreciated persimmon’s vibrant orange color, unique sweet/tart flavor and crunchiness are a brilliant addition to salads. Enjoy them while you can as they are only in season for a short time during the fall and winter months.

Finally, end the evening on a sweet note with the chilled Flourless Chocolate Cake kissed with raspberry coulis and drizzled with peanut butter caramel, then, sprinkled with peanut butter cup pieces —yes, you read that right! Resolutions to diet, be damned! You know what they say, deprivation is damning to diets, so treat yo’ self!

I hope your new year is off to a great start. January and the months ahead can seem like a real slog, heightened by cold and dreary weather, so infuse the gray with gaiety, lively music, lovely libations, and comforting cuisine!
