Summer Duffy Rides in Newport Beach

Sunset view from Back Bay Bistro

The lazy days of summer are drawing to a close. I know it when a trip to Target reveals all the Back-to-School promotions and we watch  gaggles of beach-goers with kids in tow dragging boogie boards and coolers to catch the last days of family fun in the sun.

No summer in SoCal is complete without a memorable last hurrah – a leisurely Duffy cruise on the serene waters of Newport Harbor, oohing and ahhing at the glamorous waterside mansions, elegant sail boats languishing among the statement yachts proclaiming “look at me” moored in front. A sparkling mid-day cruise or stunning sunset sail to seal summer’s end with a kiss is the way to do it right.

Back Bay Bistro, Newport Beach

To make it an easy day for everyone involved, you can rent a Duffy (electric boat) at Newport Dunes Back Bay Bistro for two fun-filled hours for $185. Most other Duffy rentals have a three-hour minimum – and, trust me, sometimes that can be a little long for the active set confined to a boat..and mom and dad.

Back Bay Bistro makes bringing along the necessary snacks really easy, too. Order cheese and veggie trays, and more sophisticated nibbles like Seared Ahi bites, in advance and you’re good to go!

But Duffy rides aren’t just for kids! Of course not, what were you thinking! If you’re looking for an unforgettable outing with friends or  a romantic date with your sweetie, you can enjoy a 3-hour Duffy cruise through the back bay of Newport Beach, and let the Back Bay Bistro chefs prepare a feast to savor with your guests.

Duffy’s are available for $185 rental fee for a 2-hour cruise.  Add on one of our three gourmet packages below to complete the occasion.  Each package comes complete with linen napkins, plates, and utensils and are paired with fine wines personally selected by the wine sommeliers of The Wine Elite.

  • CRUISIN’ – $20 Per Person

Features Brie, fresh fruit, artisan breads and wine.

  • COME SAIL AWAY – $30 Per Person

Features your choice of bistro salad, gourmet sandwiches with a selection of breads, chicken or beef skewers and wine.

  • BEYOND THE SEA – $40 Per Person

Features your choice of bistro salad, fresh seafood pasta, choice of bistro house-made dessert, and wine.

A designated “driver” is required (it’s against the law to drink and operate a boat)
