The Cannery oceanfront dining Newport Beach
Newport Beach Restaurant Week begins Friday, January 17th and runs through Sunday, January 26th – that’s 10 days to indulge in the delicious dining that Newport Beach is known for. With over  60 participating restaurants offering three-course prix-fixe dinner menus for just $20, $30 or $40 per person and/or two-course prix-fixe lunch menus for only $10, $15 or $20 per person, you can eat your way  to culinary nirvana. This city-wide affair gives foodies and, if you dislike that term, food lovers, the chance to explore all that makes Newport Beach a dining destination – from casual to fine dining, fresh fish to sizzling steaks to decadent desserts – Newport Bach has whatever floats your boat!

Newport Beach Restaurant Week 2014

Speaking of boats, a top pick has to be The Cannery on Newport harbor between 30th and Lido Park Drive. Chef Nick Weber joined The Cannery in February, 2013 and was instrumental in reviving the family-owned landmark which began as a commercial fish cannery in 1921. With gorgeous waterfront views and an exceptional seafood focused menu featuring fresh fish from offshore boats and seafood flown in from around the world, The Cannery is an excellent choice for discriminating seafood lovers.  The lively Jelly Fish lounge and sushi bar upstairs shares the seaside ambiance and its unique menu of Asian-inspired dishes, premium sushi and creative rolls makes it a very popular Happy Hour and late night spot.

Braised Short Ribs with white polenta, truffle cream corn

One of the three entree selections for NBRW – tender Braised Short Ribs with velvety truffle creamed corn.

Noteworthy! Swordfish with roasted mushrooms and redolent garlic confit.

I’ve dined in the restaurant with my husband on several occasions and love meeting the girls and taking visiting friends there for cocktails and sushi, so when I was asked to preview a restaurant for NBRW, The Cannery was my first choice. Feast your eyes on their mouthwatering selections – you absolutely cannot go wrong. Sous chef Joshua and the whole team at The Cannery will make sure that your experience is one that will have you coming back time and again.

Steamed Mussels in white wine broth with Spanish chorizo

The third entree choice, Steamed Mussels in white wine broth with Spanish chorizo was excellent, but the French bread we had was crying for more broth!

Chocolate Molten Cake

I can’t let you go without a mouthwatering shot of the Chocolate Molten Cake – with chantilly cream and Valrhona chocolate sauce, they know how to do it right at The Cannery!

Visit Newport Beach Restaurant Week’s website for a list of all participating restaurants and their special prix fixe menu choices to start making your list now. Tickets and passes aren’t necessary for this week of discounted dining; show up at any participating location or call ahead to make a reservation – NBRW is the perfect opportunity to explore new restaurants or revisit favorite haunts.

Greg – yes, you should get out of the Hills now and then and visit the golden beaches down south 🙂
