Veggie Grill

This week’s obsession…. The Veggie Grill is no secret to vegans, vegetarians and devotees of a plant-based diet, but The Veggie Grill is also the perfect indulgence for the uninitiated or those who know they really should attempt to eat more vegetables and fruits. Hopefully you all were introduced to the USDA food pyramid in Health class so I can skip the lesson on food groups, but you may not know that, in 2010, the pyramid has been replaced by an easier to understand graphic representation of a plate filled with the five main food groups. Vegetables and fruits are supposed to fill half your plate with a bit more veggies than fruit (natural sugar is better than processed, but its still sugar).

At The Veggie Grill, you can enjoy a flavorful array of fresh, generally organic, veggies in sandwiches, burgers, soups, and salads. Some dishes contain The Veggie Grill’s Chickin’ or Veggie Steak which is their specialty seasoned and marinated veggie protein blends – you have to taste it to believe it! I’m usually not one for “fake” meat and have no issue with a salad like their All Hail Kale or the Baja Fiesta, but if you’re a staunch omnivore give their buffalo wings or blackened chickin’ a try. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how authentic it tastes – we were!

New item: Buffalo Chickin’ Wings

A group of LA and Orange County avid food lovers were invited by owners, Kevin and T.K. and my friend Anita, to taste menu items and kick-off the opening of The Veggie Grill at the LA Farmer’s market. I’ve dined at their location in Irvine near UCI, so I gladly accepted the chance to taste more of their menu offerings besides the sweet potato fries and kale salad which I always seem to order…it’s that good. All menu items are free of cholesterol, trans fat, and high-fructose corn syrup and they have a list of gluten-free choices as well.

Guests place their order at the counter and receive a number to place on your table. The service staff at the counter are smiling and very knowledgeable about menu items which are made fresh and delivered within minutes to your table. Drink selections include beer, wine, sparkling water, and a selection of brewed iced-teas and fresh lemonade and natural sodas.

Here’s a peek at what you’ve been missing if you haven’t ever been to The Veggie Grill:

Papa’s Portobello

Baja Fiesta Salad

All- American Stack

All Hail Kale Salad with Blackened Chickin’

If you:

1. prefer to eat a healthy meal

2. know you should be eating healthier and are trying to eat less fast food

3. don’t have time to go shopping or are too tired to make dinner

resist the urge to drive-thru and navigate to one of The Veggie Grill’s seven restaurants in L.A. and Orange County instead! Your body will thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

All Hail Kale is my absolutely favorite. I just can’t get enough of it! And their black bean chili soup! But now that I know that they have all these other amazing menu options, I’m going to go back in the next few days to try those out! I can’t wait for a delicious lunch =)

What a great idea for a restaurant. We don’t have anything like that here on Oahu as far as I know. I bet the people in my town (Kailua) would love it – all beach going, marathon running, foodies out here!

    Hi Priscilla!!

LOVE the new design!!! I can’t believe I’ve never eaten at Veggie Grill – definitely going to have to add it to my list of places to try especially since there is one practically in my own back yard!!

Those dishes look fantastic, Priscilla! That portobello burger is really calling my name…but the kale and blackened chicken salad looks great too! Wish there was a Veggie Grill in my area!
