Fleming's Small Plates-Pork Belly, Polenta, Cherry Chutney

To kick off summer in style, Fleming’s Steakhouse has launched their delicious Wine Country Brunch and brought back the popular Small Plates, Big Pours for six weeks. Small Plates, Big Pours is the perfect combination of one of Fleming’s delicious seafood or meat entrees (choose from 7) in a portion that’s larger than an appetizer, but smaller than an entree, paired with a “big pour”, the equivalent of a glass and a half of wine, for $24.95. But, hurry it’s been going on since May 15th and ends on June 30th.

Guests can select any of the seven creative Small Plates including the New Zealand Petite Lamb Chops, Fleming’s Lobster Tempura, Colossal Shrimp Skewers, New Bedford Scallops, Sliced Filet Mignon, Braised Short Ribs, or Ahi Tuna matched with one of their seven premium Big Pours, each carefully selected by Director of Wine, Maeve Pesquera, to guarantee the perfect pairings.

The following pairings are recommended, but guests may mix and match as they wish:

  •  Sliced Filet Mignon Esk Valley Merlot, Gimblett Gravels, New Zealand
  • Colossal Shrimp Skewers with Villa Wolf Pinot Gris. Pfalz, Germany
  •  New Zealand Petite Lamb Chops with Parducci Petite Sirah, True Grit
  •  Braised Short Ribs of Beef with B.R. Cohn Silver Label Cabernet, North Coast
  •  Seared Ahi Tuna with A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir, Oregon
  •  New Bedford Scallops with Hanna Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley
  •  Lobster Tempura with Franciscan Estate Chardonnay, Napa Valley

Fleming’s Small Plates are only available at the bar and are great for sharing and perfect for wine and food lovers looking for light, upscale options.

Life is good when you can savor perfectly crisped slices of Pork Belly with creamy polenta and a vibrant cherry chutney while sipping Gloria Ferrer champagne in the sanctuary of an elegant wine studio.

The tender-crisp pork belly was served as a starter while we listened to Jose Jiminez, Managing Partner of Fleming’s, tell us about the exciting launch of their trademarked WinePad™ – the first ever digital wine list that transforms how diners can select wine.  Are you in the mood for a Napa Valley Vacation? Of course you are! When you come to the restaurant be sure to enter for a chance to win Fleming’s Napa Valley Vacation for two while you’re playing with the WinePad™.

Seared Scallops, Fleming's Small Plates-5934

Citrus and grassy characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc accentuate the richness of the NewBedford Seared Scallops and the citrus and green flavors of this dish.

Lobster Tempura, Fleming's Small Plates-5936

Notes of vanilla in the Franciscan Chardonnay echo the rich, sweetness of Fleming’s Lobster Tempura while the acidity juxtaposes the tempura batter.

Oak aged wines pair well with grilled meats and these succulent Lamb Chops were divine with the spicy, herby notes of this particular Petite Sirah from Parducci.

Seared Ahi, Fleming's Small Plates-5939

The rich, meatiness of spice-rubbed Ahi Tuna pairs perfectly with Pinot Noir and the low tannins and fruitiness of Pinot balances the heat of the mustard sauce.

That’s only four of the seven fabulous small plates you can choose from – and it’s a tough choice, so I recommend going with several people, because sharing is more fun! The Crisp Pork Belly is not one of them, but it is available during Fleming’s “5 for $6 till 7“Bar Menu daily from 5:00-7:00 p.m. along with 5 premium cocktails and 5 specially selected wines by the glass, each for just $6.

With a prime location within Fashion Island, Fleming’s has it all! Including a Wine Country Brunch from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, but I’ll have to tell you about that in another post because it’s time to head out and celebrate the longest day of the year!

Cheers 🙂
