If you’re a #SharkTank fan, you may remember Shane Talbott and his partner, Steve Nakisher’s appearance on the show last year. Shortly after Kevin O’Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, made them an offer they entered a new stratosphere of success that they never dreamed was possible.

“I am a huge lover of tea, and wanted to bring that passion to what I was doing in the salon and spa world,” Talbott said in an interview with CNBC. “I wanted to work with the best ingredients that you can, and give people a new experience of tea that they didn’t know was possible.”

He and Nakisher built their boutique tea company slowly, funding it by themselves and calling in favors. Being among Oprah’s Ultimate Favorite Things led to a spike in sales that had the sharks circling. I watched the show as each shark opted out due to the luxury item’s price point, reservations about the competitive tea market, etc. But, Mr Wonderful knows the luxury market and saw potential in Talbott Teas.

“We were tapping into friends and family. We did the second mortgage; we did everything you could and the next move was to sell the car,” Talbott said. But instead, they made a bigger and bolder move, by jumping into the deep end on “Shark Tank.”

Fortunately their passion for their product paid off, and they closed a deal with Kevin O’Leary. It was O’Leary’s idea to introduce the company to the beverage giant Jamba Juice which resulted in a “multimillion dollar agreement”.

“We thought this would be an opportunity to work together and sort of collaborate,” Talbott said. “We were shocked to sit down at one of the meetings one day, and the top team at Jamba Juice looked at us and said, ‘We’d like to know if you’re interested in joining Jamba Juice outright. We’re 100 percent interested in the company and we’d like Talbott Teas to be a part of Jamba Juice.’ We were shocked.”

“The fact that we were able to self-fund a small business out of our pockets, growing it literally from nothing all the way up to being offered a multimillion-dollar offer, was huge to us,” he said. “It was the dream come true.” {Source: Liza Hughes. CNBC.com}
