The newest addition to downtown Santa Ana’s Artists Village, Blackmarket Bakery on Broadway, will be celebrating its Grand Opening with an all-day event and fundraiser on Saturday, February 6th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Chef/Owner Rachel Klemek invites the community to come in and enjoy her unique sweet and savory offerings.

Chef Rachel will donate 15% of her sales during the event to nearby nonprofit, Isaiah House, which supplies more than 3,000 meals each week to those in need within the community.

Holy Moly! Member’s Only Sandwich – Ham,Turkey, Bacon, Provolone, Cheddar, Avocado, Lettuce, Roma Tomatoes, Red Onion, Mayo, Dijon on Toasted Brioche (9.75)

Located inside the historic Santora Building, Chef Rachel will be sampling her award-winning, made-from-scratch baked goods – including signature cookies, mousse cakes, tarts and confections and give-away cakes in an old-fashioned “Cake Walk”.

One look at her award-winning confections demonstrates how Chef Rachel has established such a loyal following over the years – beginning in Skypark Circle in 2004 before expanding to their second retail store at The Camp in 2012. After eyeing DTSA for several years, Chef Rachel is excited to contribute her talents to the vibrant and creative community that is Santa Ana’s Artist Village.

Blackmarket Bakery offers a selection of fresh, whole-foods based items that are pleasing to the body and the mind. By using baking fundamentals – butter, flour, sugar and eggs (all blackmarket goods during WWII, thus the name) – Chef Rachel focuses on delivering a culinary experience that revolves around natural ingredients, complex textures, and global flavors. Her incredible cakes and fresh breads are just a few of the items that showcase her culinary genius.

In addition to her homemade pastries and scrumptious tarts (chocolate lovers absolutely must try her famed Black Widow Tart), Blackmarket in Santa Ana also offers an array of breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads. My personal favorite was the Bandera (above) – definitely coming back for this one!

"Blackmarket

To accompany these savory dishes, Blackmarket Santa Ana serves a selection of hard cider and craft beers on tap and by the bottle. Samples of their “on tap” Craft Beer and Hard Cider will be served on Saturday, with lively music from Echo Sparks beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Blackmarket has added their unique flair to a formerly shuttered space in the historic Santora Building – the perfect vehicle for the artsy vintage cafe showcasing fine wood and metal craftsmanship by Chef Rachel’s husband in the decor and displays of quirky gift items and fun tee shirts to pick up along with bread and/or pastries for that special person.

“We want to support those doing good in the community and Isaiah House is an organization in our neighborhood that is making a big impact by serving those who need it the most, from providing food to clothes and other necessities to those facing homelessness. Weekly, we donate bread and pastries to the great team and Isaiah House. We hope that folks will come out to celebrate our grand opening and support a worthy local group in the process.” Chef Rachel Klemek
