Sustainability, locally sourced ingredients, farm to table; you’ve heard the buzz words connected with nearly every restaurant you read about, but who’s really walking the walk, and not just talking the talk? Allow me introduce you to The Positive Plate<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, an Orange County based sustainability program, helping restaurants, food trucks, and caterers implement individualized and comprehensive sustainability plans.<\/p>\n

Restaurants use massive amounts of energy and water, they ship products in from all over the world, and they generate tremendous amounts of food and packaging waste. We help restaurants reduce the negative impacts made through this process, while increasing the positive ones. All restaurants participating in Positive Plate’s program make significant commitments towards operating sustainably, and deserve your support.<\/p>\n

Each restaurant they work with has gone through an extensive evaluation covering criteria from the following five categories:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Product Sourcing
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Energy and Water Efficiency
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Recycling and Waste Reduction
\n4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Employee Training and Development
\n5.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Community Engagement<\/p>\n

Eight area restaurants have completed an extensive evaluation by Positive Plate’s team of experts to verify and validate their sustainable practices, these are: Avanti Cafe<\/span><\/em><\/strong> (Costa Mesa), Duke’s<\/strong><\/em><\/span> (Huntington Beach), Haute Cakes<\/strong><\/em><\/span> (Newport Beach), Haven Gastropub<\/strong><\/span><\/em> (Orange), Sage<\/strong><\/em><\/span> (Newport Beach), Sol Cocina<\/strong><\/em> (Newport Beach), Taco Asylum<\/strong><\/em><\/span> (Costa Mesa), and Xanh Bistro<\/strong><\/em><\/span> (Fountain Valley). The Positive Plate’s official launch party, \u201cA Taste of Fall<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d is set for this Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Second Harvest Food Bank<\/a>, inside the Orange County Great Park. This exciting event will feature all of the restaurants participating in our innovative program and benefit local charities that focus on nutrition and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Each restaurant will serve a small sustainable dish that best represents their restaurant.<\/p>\n

All food and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are included in the price of admission.<\/p>\n

Beer, wine, and cocktails will be served, along with live entertainment and a silent auction.<\/p>\n
