Coming in August: Tuna takes top billing during Bluewater Grill’s August tasting events at  all locations: Newport Beach, Redondo Beach, Tustin and newly opened (mid-June)  Bluewater Avalon on the waterfront in Avalon (Catalina Island) in California and Phoenix, AZ). Enjoy the freshest, sustainable* tuna  – from seared Ahi and Albacore to Calico Poke and Spicy Tuna Rolls. Bluewater Grill’s “Tuna Takeover” Tasting Event on Tuesday, August 13th, will feature a feast of tuna prepared five ways:  Seared Ahi; Seared and Smoked Albacore; Calico Poke, including both Ahi and Albacore; and Spicy Tuna Roll sushi. The $24.95 price includes a choice of tastings of Hakutsuru Draft Sake and Sapporo Draft Beer, both imported from Japan, or Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

Seared Tuna Sashimi

*Consistent with Bluewater Grill’s strict commitment to seafood sustainability, all varieties of tuna served during the tasting comply with sustainability standards established by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach or other third-party organization involved in fish-origin certification. I experienced Bluewater Grill’s firm commitment and gained a wealth of information about seafood sustainability and advances in farming during the first Seafood Summit sponsored by Bluewater Grill. I followed up with two posts about the Seafood Summit  and  Oysters 101 in an effort to raise awareness of this important issue and share some of  the wealth of information I gained from the experts from Santa Monica Seafood Company and the Aquarium of the Pacific who presented a mind-boggling amount of information on the complexities of sustainability, responsible farming, monitoring practices, and rating systems.

Offered on the second Tuesday of every month, Bluewater Grill’s monthly tasting events allow seafood aficionados to combine the latest seasonal fresh fish varieties with commentary by the restaurant’s resident seafood experts. Hand-selected wines and specialty draught beers are added to the mix, and a special, limited-time menu offering allows customers to sample the tasting event throughout the month. The result has become a popular monthly diversion for Bluewater Grill’s large fan base.
