I am thankful for the beauty that exists in our world. For this week’s obsession, I offer you a glimpse of Italian sculptor Antonio Canova’s exquisite Cupid Awakening Psyche (1793) at the Louvre. Absolutely breathtaking- it is love carved in stone.
According to myth, Cupid awakens Psyche from eternal slumber with a kiss.
Wow, that is beautiful. I’ve been to the Louvre but don’t remember that particular sculpture 🙁 I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
that is absolutely breathtaking – I can even imagine what it was like to see it up close.
That is Beautiful!!!
Antonio Canova was truly a magnificent Venetian sculptor! I am a great fan of his. I also saw some of his works in Rome at the Galleria Borghese and Milan at the Villa Carlotta but the one in the Louvre is the most beautiful, I agree. Thanks for sharing!
Now I know who the true art lovers are 🙂
@Victoria – If you recall the Michelangelo sculpture Captive (The Dying Slave), Psyche and Cupid are at the other end of the room. Next time!
@Lindsey @Angie – Yes, takes your breath away! I sat and contemplated it for half an hour and snapped photos from every angle.
@Arthur – Thanks for stopping by! I love the name of your website and how you bring Michelangelo into food styling 🙂
Such a beautiful sculpture. Seeing this is making me want to travel to Europe again. Thank you for sharing!
Wow, is that gorgeous! I would love to see it in the Louvre…thanks for sharing!
So beautiful. I hope one day to see this in the Louvre for myself too. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful piece of art. 🙂
It’s truly breath-taking! I’d love to see it in person!
