10 Smoothies to Stay Healthy All Year

Green Smoothies, healthy smoothies, easy smoothies

“Lose weight” is one of the top New Year’s resolutions every year – no surprise there. We’ve probably all said this at one time or another. I like to call them “goals” versus resolutions and some years I set some and some years I don’t. Maybe I thought life was just fine as it is, or felt that I didn’t need to put any more stress or pressure on myself, or was afraid of feeling inadequate if set goals weren’t fulfilled. Whatever – this year I have a few.

One, I WILL get organized; in my corporate days, I was an efficient, organized, multi-tasker who could effectively do the work of three people (seriously, before I “retired” from our start-up, we hired a controller, HR manager and office manager to assume the responsibilities) now I can barely get out of the house before noon and my office is in frightening disarray. That’s just one – I won’t bore you with the rest. Do you set goals or make resolutions for the new year?

I use the word WILL above because I read that the language you use in building habits is very important as it reflects your intention and mind-set. So instead of saying, “I should” or “I’ll try“, tell yourself “I will”. You  might also enjoy this CNN article about resolutions and what most people really want when they say “lose weight” is to be happy and healthy.

Let’s be happy and healthy all year! To help with that, we will eat healthy and exercise throughout the year, not just in January. Smoothies always seem to be a big part of making healthy diet choices and I’ve gathered 10 smoothie recipes – a few from me and a few from blogger friends and healthy blogs that I read – click on the names to take you to the recipe. Mornings can be hectic and I’ve got a great organization tip (sometimes I’ve still got it!) for you, ideas on making green smoothies more appealing and keeping it fun.

The good news is that losing weight isn’t the only path to well-being in 2014. If there’s one thing we’ve learned at CNN Health, it’s that a lot of factors affect your health, from where you live to how much TV you watch.

“Good health happens when the physical, emotional and social or environmental parts of our lives are in balance,” said Dr. Amy Crawford-Faucher, a family physician at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. “When people resolve to ‘lose weight,’ they are actually saying, ‘I want to feel and look better.’ “

So this year, we challenge you to make a new kind of New Year’s resolution. We asked a few of our favorite experts for recommendations, and their answers may surprise you. Pick one, or several, from the list below. Then make a deal with yourself: This year, “lose weight” isn’t going to be your main goal, just a nice side benefit to being happy and healthy.
